After attending an AA meeting you will create a PowerPoint presentation with 8-1

After attending an AA meeting you will create a PowerPoint presentation with 8-12 slides about your experience for the class. The title slide does not count in that number but must include location, time and date of the meeting. Share with us what you learned. You must post your Presentation on an AA Meeting to the designated Discussion Board. In the Discussion Board you must view and respond to the Presentation of an AA meeting from another student. I am never looking for anything generic from any of my students. What I am looking for is what your personal experience was from attending this meeting. You will be graded entirely on your ability to make me feel like I was sitting next to you at the meeting. I am looking for the specific stories shared by the people who spoke. Who Attended? Who spoke? What did they say? How did other people react? Who else spoke? What did they say? What was the atmosphere like? What did you learn about yourself? What was different when the meeting was over about you for having attended the meeting? How do you feel about people with addictions after attending the meeting? Is it different than before? How did this affect you as a human being? What else was interesting about the meeting? How were you treated at the meeting? Was this what you expected? Please be mindful of the attendee’s anonymity. YOU MUST ALSO RESPOND IN DEPTH (8-10 sentences) TO AT LEAST 1 OTHER PRESENTATION, 20 POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR NO RESPONSE. NOTE: You can substitute attending a meeting of Narcotics Anonymous (www.na.org) or similar group with prior approval from the instructor. WHAT I DO NOT WANT are slides with the history of AA, or the 12 Steps, or Sobriety Coins, or the Traditions, or the Prayers or a slide with quotations from the Big Book. I want your focus to be on what was shared by the people attending at the meeting. Introduction Slide or any Reference List Slide do not count as part of the 8-12 slides speaking about your thoughts on the AA meeting.

DO NOT USE DIRECT QUOTES in writing your essays. In other words, don’t copy conceptual definitions, quotes, or other long amounts of text from the readings and paste them in quotation marks in your answers. You must use your OWN WORDS and paraphrase as needed. I’ll deduct 20 points off your response if you rely on direct quotes to answer the question. NO DIRECT QUOTES! ü CITATIONS ARE REQUIRED throughout your responses. If you cite the lecture, indicate the lecture # and the time you are citing (Lecture 2, 5:33). If you are citing the textbook, use the book publisher and Chapter/Section (OpenStax, 12.2). For all other readings, use the author, year, and page # if there is a page #. You don’t have to be perfect or fancy, but I should able to find the references. ü You should use ONLY sources we have used in this course to answer your questions. Google is not your friend for the final exam. Essay responses that have no citations or rely on Google searches rather than materials we are using the class will be penalized heavily. Please rely on the materials we have used in the course.

(Scenario) At this moment, you are sitting at home working on your WCU class. Suddenly, the National Weather Bureau sends an alert across your cell phone—a tornado is headed your way. You have 15 minutes before touchdown in your neighborhood. What is your plan? This is a ‘shelter in place’ scenario, you cannot outrun the tornado. Identify a safe place in your home to take shelter. You must include research. Cite and reference two sources and explain the recommended safety measures in a tornado emergency and how you would apply them to your specific living arrangements. b. How prepared are you in the event of a disaster? Describe your level of disaster preparedness using specific examples and references to your “go-bag” and preparedness checklist assignments. Example: “I am more prepared for a water-related disaster than a fire-related disaster even though I live in a highly secluded, forested area. I have a boat as transportation in the event of flooding, but I do not have rain barrels or fire barrier supplies on hand.” Example: “There were many missing items on my preparedness checklist. I realized that I do not own a flashlight. If I had to use my phone as a light it would drain the battery very quickly. c. Reflect on how prepared you were before this class and compare it with how prepared you are now. Have you acquired any new emergency items? Do you plan to take any additional trainings or certification courses? Have you shared your knowledge with friends and family?

You should begin work on this speech by identifying an issue that has global significance. By “globally significant,” this is an issue that impacts people in more than one country and should be of concern to leaders and citizens of many or most societies. Climate change, polluted oceans, energy resources, human trafficking, genocide, war/conflict, refugee crisis/rights, and human rights are examples of topics that are global in scope. Part of your job may be to argue for the global significance of the issue you choose: How and why does this issue affect (regional, national) and global communities? You will clearly assert a position on a globally impactful topic, and persuade the audience to take a particular action. You will provide background on the topic, clearly describe your position and solution, and offer the audience-specific, actionable steps they can take.

The facilitation is the type of support needed to help people change their attitudes, habits, skills and ways of thinking and working. How to change brings us to the PDCA Model which is a Quality Improvement Model/Framework that supports this facilitation element as suggested by the author. This widely used QI framework consists of the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle which has 4 stages: Plan: Determine goals for a process and needed changes to achieve them Do: Implement the changes Check: Evaluate the results in terms of performance Act: Standardize and stabilize the change or begin the cycle again, depending on the results.
